The Barbara Wiedner and Dorothy Vandercook Memorial Peace Scholarship is open to students from across the U.S. and around the world in their senior year of high school or the first year of college. This year the award will be for $500. Students will compete based on a record of their activities "relating to peace and social justice, nuclear disarmament issues, or conflict resolution." Letters of recommendation will help document these activities, but newspaper articles are also welcome. This year's deadline is March 1, 2009. Students can find more complete information and download the application at the Grandmothers for Peace International web site. | src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js"> |

The description on this page is not entirely accurate. Ten to twelve scholarships of $250 or $500 are awarded each year. See all details, and download an application, on the Grandmothers for Peace website. The application and all supporting materials must be mailed and postmarked by the deadline date; they cannot be submitted online nor by email.
