How to Avoid Scholarship Scams

Times are tough, and that's as true for students as it is for anyone else.  As students search high and low for scholarships, there are always a few bad actors out there looking to take advantage of others.

How can you detect a scholarship scam?  Well, there a few things to look for.

1. You have to "pay to play."  If a scholarship application involves any cost(even  $5-10 "processing fee"), forget it!

2. You're guaranteed money.  Really?  How does THAT work?

3. You're asked for too much information, and given too little.  Does this scholarship look legit to you?  It doesn't to me.

You might also want to look at Fastweb's recent bulletin.  It's got lots of good info on scholarship scams and more.
